“We all have to try together to keep the manufacturers in Formula 1″ – Toto Wolff wants Red Bull Honda to continue in the sport
“We all have to try together to keep the manufacturers in Formula 1″ – Toto Wolff wants Red Bull Honda to continue in the sport amid engine freeze suggestions.
Red Bull and Honda have an agreement for the former to use the latter’s engine. More crucially, Mercedes and Ferrari bosses Toto Wolff and Mattia Binotto have agreed for it. But Dr. Helmut Marko seems to suggest that FIA hasn’t given a positive confirmation on the engine freeze yet.
“Everything has been settled between us and Honda. The timing is set. Everyone is in the starting blocks. But there will only be an okay when we have written proof from the FIA that the development freeze on the engine side is coming.”
He also gave an update about the situation, that there is no update on it! With the season starting next month, the FIA, FOM, and the four manufacturers need to get on an unanimous decision soon.
“The agreement that existed on Friday was no longer there on Monday. There are further talks and negotiations.”
Toto Wolff supports the Red Bull engine freeze demands
Wolff has previously suggested that he wants the engine freeze to happen so that Red Bull can work this season around with the Honda engines. Red Bull’s former partner Renault are yet to confirm though, and could pose problems in the negotiations. Toto Wolff confirmed the support while talking to RTL.
“If the freeze is necessary to keep Red Bull Honda in business, we will support it. We all have to try together to keep the manufacturers in Formula 1. The Red Bull Honda project is very ambitious, but I think they can do that. That’s why we are basically for a freeze.”
