Jofra Archer injury: Why has Archer been ruled out of 2nd India vs England Chennai Test?
Jofra Archer injury: The fast bowler had played a vital role in troubling the Indian batsmen in the recently concluded first Test.
England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the imminent second Test between India and England slated to begin from February 13 in Chennai. The development was made public on the official website of ECB (England Cricket Board) moments ago.
Sharing the new ball in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Archer had registered match figures of 30.1-7-98-3. In addition to dismissing the Indian opening batsmen cheaply in the first innings, Archer had played a vital role in troubling the Indian batsmen throughout the match especially with the short delivery.
Jofra Archer injury
ECB have confirmed that Archer has had an injection in his right below following discomfort the fast bowler experienced during the first Test.
“Jofra Archer will miss the second Test against India in Chennai starting on Saturday after having an injection in his right elbow. The injection follows discomfort the fast bowler experienced during the 227-run win in the first Test at the same venue,” ECB said in a statement.
Archer, who has also been named in England’s 16-member T20I squad, is expected to take part in the third Test which will be a day-night affair in Ahmedabad.
“The issue is not related to any previous injury and it is hoped the treatment will allow the condition to settle down quickly, allowing the player to return to action in time for the third Test in Ahmedabad,” read the statement.

Until England are looking to make more changes to a bowling combination which dismissed 20 Indian batsmen in the first Test, one out of Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes or Olly Stone should be an apt replacement for Archer in the second Test beginning from Saturday.
