“We could just bet for one of his cars or something!” – Daniel Ricciardo suggests alternative to a tattoo bet with McLaren boss Zak Brown
“We could just bet for one of his cars or something!” – Daniel Ricciardo suggests an alternative to a tattoo bet with McLaren boss Zak Brown, as the latter ‘hates’ needles.
Daniel Ricciardo had the famous tattoo bet with his Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul, which he won by taking two podiums last season. Now that he has shifted to McLaren, the same bet was expected with the McLaren CEO Zak Brown. But it is unlikely to happen, as Mr. Brown is apparently scared of needles.
“We were just only a couple hours ago having some lunch with Zak and he mentioned something about him hating needles. So I can’t see the tattoo thing happening with Zak. But we’ll think of something else. I know he’s got a pretty good car collection so maybe we could just bet for one of his cars or something!”
So Cyril Abiteboul leaves Renault/Alpine…
Clearly he wasn’t happy with Daniel Ricciardo’s demands of a honey badger tattoo on his forehead so left the operation entirely.

Daniel Ricciardo waiting for Cyril to complete the tattoo bet
Ricciardo is still waiting for his ex-boss to complete his dare and get his first (and probably) only tattoo. Abiteboul is no more part of the Renault group, after the rebranding of the F1 team to Alpine.
“You will definitely know when I get done with Cyril. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened yet. But it will, it will. And we certainly left on the terms that there was still some unfinished business, that business being the tattoo. I hope it does happen. Obviously sooner rather than later, but it definitely will.”
