“Stephen Curry changed the game, just like Michael Jordan”: Knicks legend Patrick Ewing compares Steph on the Warriors to the GOAT

Patrick Ewing says that Stephen Curry changed the game, just as Michael Jordan did when he was hitting the floor every single night. 

If you told somebody 6 years ago that the scrawny 6’3 kid from Davidson would be mentioned in the same breath as Michael Jordan, they would never be able to fathom it. However, 2x MVP seasons and 3 rings later, Steph Curry deserves to be mentioned alongside the greats. 

However, it isn’t his accomplishments that require a comparison between Steph Curry and Michael Jordan. It is their ability to revolutionize the game forever, that necessitates the comparison.

Steph Curry and Michael Jordan have playstyles that are worlds apart and yet, caused the NBA to change quite drastically when moving forward.

Guys like Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant followed in the Mike’s footsteps while guys like Damian Lillard and Trae Young look to carry the torch Curry has passed down to them. 

Patrick Ewing draws a comparison between Stephen Curry and Michael Jordan

Despite the countless postseason shortcomings against the Chicago Bulls, Patrick Ewing remains quite respectful of his former advisory. He compared Steph’s impact to the one Jordan had when in his heyday. 

“Steph, like Michael, changed the game. You got guys shooting those deep shots and doing the things that he did. Michael changed it by all the dunking he was doing. Georgetown played Davidson and my son was on the team so I went to the game. Curry kicked our butts.” 

“I still didn’t think he would be the player that he became. I take my hat off to him, He’s definitely a student of the game, he’s worked at his craft and he has those guys playing together as a team.”

Though Jordan wasn’t the first guard to quite literally enter rarified air, he was certainly the first to have his in-game moments projected for the world to see. Steph Curry changed the way teams play the game, forever. 

His ability to stretch the floor was never seen before and teams were desperate in trying to find guys that were long-range snipers just like him. The NBA has never had more talented shooters in their league and it is all thanks to Curry and the Warriors’ success.
