“I’m teaching them mathematics”: When Wilt Chamberlain hilariously explained how he’d slept with 20000 women on Conan O’Brien’s show
Wilt Chamberlain once went on Conan O’Brien’s show, where he joked about how he arrived at a figure of 20,000 for how many women he’s bedded.
As a 7’2″ center with over a 40 inch vertical, Wilt is still the most athletic center of all time. Through 15 seasons in the NBA, Wilt Chamberlain set all kinds of records for scoring, rebounding and even assists.
His rebounding records (and those of Bill Russell) are some that will never even come close to being broken. This is because modern basketball is played at a much lower pace than during the 60s.
On the other hand, the number of women available to NBA stars is much higher today, especially with social media. And still, Wilt’s self-proclaimed record of 20,000 women bedded is possibly the most unbreakable record of them all.
Wilt did go on to clarify that he was enumerating the number of his sexual encounters. After all, even meeting and shaking hands with 20,000 women would be a real job for anyone.
Wilt Chamberlain explains how he arrived at the figure of 20,000 women to Conan O’Brien
Well before his 1999 death, Chamberlain was once a guest on the popular Late Night with Conan O’Brien show. Given how friendly Conan is with his guests, it was a lot easier for him to talk about his sexual exploits in this appearance.
After a bit of banter following Conan’s question on 20000 women, Wilt finally arrived at the point:
“I thought the reason you invited me to this show was to get me an award from the board of education. Because whenever people see me now, they’re like ‘He started when he was 15, he’s now 55. So let’s see, 20000 divided by 365…’ I’m getting them thinking!”
“But on the serious side of those things though, the number was to make a statement about something. The idea was to say that sexuality rules the world. For men you think that having 1000 different women is really cool.”
