“If you put Lewis Hamilton in a McLaren, he won’t win the race”- Lance Stroll on Lewis Hamilton’s supremacy is only with Mercedes.
Lance Stroll, who has driven with Williams at the initial stage of his career, claims that the world champion Lewis Hamilton would have struggled in McLaren and Williams.
There is denial about it, and Stroll believes that he has targetted the sport’s structure instead of targeting Hamilton, and he told that he respects him massively.
The Canadian driver said, “As a world champion, I respect Hamilton, but if you put Lewis Hamilton in a McLaren, he won’t win the race, and he’s one of the best drivers on the grid. If he had a Williams, he wouldn’t have won the race.”
“It’s the nature of the sport. While the pilot is in the vehicle, it can make a difference of two or three positions but cannot climb over the other teams by a second or a half. Maybe the teams will catch up faster than expected.”
Lewis Hamilton believes the same.
Stroll’s added statement on Hamilton benefitting from Mercedes’ dominance feels redundant because of the fans’ already discourse over this topic.
However, Hamilton still believes that his move to Mercedes was a game-changer move in his career, and would credit all the cars helped him glorifying his career.
But at the same time, nobody knew what Mercedes would be like in a couple of years when Hamilton signed. Many believed that leaving McLaren at that time would have been a disaster and a step back in his career.
Accepted that in 2013 itself, Mercedes looked like a car with an abundance of improvement and capable of winning one-two odd races, but nobody in the remotest of its dreams would have expected it.
Credits to the new hybrid engines back in those days, when Mercedes stepped into developing its power unit earlier than others, having a considerable advantage over the rest.
