David Warner’s Marsh Cup century: The senior opening batsman made his presence felt in a domestic One-Day match at the Bellerive Oval.

During the ninth match of the ongoing season of the Marsh Cup between Tasmania and New South Wales in Hobart, New South Wales opening batsman David Warner scored his 24th List A century in a winning cause.

Chasing a 259-run target, Warner’s fifth One Day century for New South Wales played a pivotal role in them registering a 3-wicket victory in the penultimate over.

Warner, who had scored a half-century in his first outing in the tournament earlier this month, ensured to cross the three-figure mark at the Bellerive Oval.

Opening the batting with wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Gilkes (17), Warner top-scored for the visitors with his match-winning 108 (115) comprising of 10 fours. The 34-year old player joined hands with New South Wales all-rounder Moises Henriques as the senior-pair put together a 96-run stand for the second wicket.

In an innings which saw Warner laying emphasis on running between the wickets than just collecting boundaries at will, he completed a century by running a single off Beau Webster in the 38th over.

Warner, who will soon travel to India for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League, earned applause from his IPL franchise SunRisers Hyderabad. Taking to their Twitter handle, SRH expressed joy in their captain being among the runs ahead of IPL 2021.

Under Warner, SRH had lost to runners-up Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier in IPL 2020 in the UAE. Top-scoring for his team last season, Warner had scored 548 runs at an average and strike rate of 39.14 and 134.64 respectively.
