Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: Delhi Capitals captain might miss first half of IPL 2021; ruled out of England ODIs
Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: The Indian batsman had suffered a shoulder injury while fielding in the first ODI against England.
India batsman Shreyas Iyer’s left shoulder injury has ruled him out of the remaining two ODIs against England in Pune. It is worth mentioning that Iyer had fell awkwardly on his shoulder during his attempt of stopping a hard hit at cover from England opening batsman Jonny Bairstow.
While Iyer managed to save a couple of runs for his team, he injured his shoulder to the extent that he couldn’t take any further part in the match and was subsequently taken for scans.
“Shreyas Iyer subluxated his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans and won’t take any further part in the game,” BCCI had issued an update on Iyer’s injury via a tweet.
Apart from Iyer, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma, England captain Eoin Morgan and England batsman Sam Billings had also suffered individual injuries at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium yesterday.
Reserve batsmen Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav were called in as substitutes for Iyer and Sharma respectively in the second innings.
Shreyas Iyer Injury Update
Iyer, who won’t take part in the second and third ODI at the same venue, is likely to be replaced by either of Shubman Gill or Yadav. While wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant can also be included, it will be interesting to see India opt for a couple of wicket-keeper batsmen in their Playing XI.
It is further being reported that Iyer has suffered a labrum tear on his left shoulder and will undergo an operation. In such a situation, Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals are in line to suffer a massive blow.
That does not look good ☹️
We hope everything is fine with @ShreyasIyer15 and that he comes back strongly 💙#INDvENG

Iyer, who had led Capitals to the finals of the last season of the IPL, is likely to miss at least the first half of the tournament beginning from April 9. Pant, who was announced as Capitals’ vice-captain last season, might lead them in Iyer’s absence in IPL 2021.
