Devon Conway emulates MS Dhoni: The Kiwi wicket-keeper put on display a street-smart stumping to dismiss the Bangladeshi batsman.

During the third T20I of the ongoing Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand in Auckland, New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman outfoxed Bangladesh batsman Afif Hossain to send him back to the dressing room.

In a stumping dismissal which was straight out of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s book, Conway became a source of amazement for one and all with his street-smart dismissal.

It all happened on the second delivery of the sixth over when Hossain missed slogging New Zealand spinner Todd Astle through the mid-wicket region. With the batsman getting beaten by a bit of extra bounce on the delivery, it was commendable of the wicket-keeper to collect the ball cleanly in the first place.

Furthermore, Conway was alert enough to observe Hossain’s foot movement as he dislodged the bails just as the batsman’s heel was off the ground. With Hossain’s foot being on the line, third umpire Wayne Knights ruled the decision in Conway’s favour as Hossain walked back after scoring 8 (6).

Chasing a 142-run target in a rain-affected 10-over contest at the Eden Park, Bangladesh were bundled out for 76 in 9.3 overs as they registered their third consecutive loss in the three-match series.

With bowling figures of 2-0-13-4, Astle was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers in his first T20I in more than 18 months. Apart from the 34-year old leg-spinner, New Zealand captain Tim Southee picked bowling figures of 2-0-15-3 to play a vital role in a 65-run victory.

After stand-in Bangladesh captain Liton Das won the toss and invited the hosts in to bat, New Zealand scored 141/4 in 10 overs on the back of opening batsman Finn Allen’s maiden T20I half-century.
