Rohit Sharma run out today: Virat Kohli draws first blood as Sharma and Chris Lynn indulge in huge mix-up in IPL 2021 opener
Rohit Sharma run out: The captain of the defending champions became the first batsman to be dismissed in IPL 2021.
During the first match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to be dismissed this season.
It all happened on the last delivery of the fourth over when Indians opening batsman Chris Lynn played a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery towards cover. Not interested in the single, Lynn was busy looking at the ball despite Sharma running halfway down the pitch to sneak a run.
Lynn, who eventually refused the run, was a tad too late to call as Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli had picked the ball cleanly and threw towards Chahal at the non-striker’s end. With a lot of distance to cover to make his ground, Sharma had to walk back to the pavilion as the bowler dislodged the bails with him out of his crease.

Having already hit a six and a four, Sharma had given early signs of getting his eye in but had to depart after scoring 19 (15) after Kohli won the toss and invited MI to bat first.
Lynn, who was bought by MI for his base price of INR 2 crore in IPL 2020 auction, finally received a game after warming the bench for the whole of last season. The 30-year old Australian batsman replaced Indians wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock at the top of the order.
