C Sakariya catch: The debutant pacer from Rajasthan Royals contributed across departments at the Wankhede Stadium tonight.

During the fourth match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in Mumbai, Rajasthan Royals pacer Chetan Sakariya enjoyed an impressive debut in the biggest T20 league.

Being given the new ball, Sakariya emerged as the pick of the Royals’ bowlers with bowling figures of 4-0-31-3 which included wickets of Mayank Agarwal (14), Lokesh Rahul (91) and Jhye Richardson (0). An economy rate of 7.75 with the opposition scoring 221/6 in 20 overs in itself speaks highly about the 23-year old player’s debut.

In addition to generating impact with the ball in hand, Sakariya also contributed on the field as his first-rate catch played a pivotal role in sending back Punjab Kings batsman Nicholas Pooran (0).

It all happened on the last delivery of the 18th over when Pooran aimed at pulling a rank short delivery from Chris Morris but found Sakariya at short fine leg. With the ball going towards the left of the fielder, he timed his dive to perfection to complete the catch.

After Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to field, Punjab thrived on the back of individual half-centuries from captain Lokesh Rahul (91) and batsman Deepak Hooda (64). The duo put together a 105-run stand off just 45 deliveries for the third wicket at the Wankhede Stadium.
