“Only a niggle”: Rohit Sharma provides massive injury update after not fielding in DC vs MI IPL 2021 match
Rohit Sharma provides massive injury update: The captain of Mumbai Indians hadn’t fielded for most part of tonight’s match.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has expressed concerns around his batsmen struggling in the “middle overs” of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League.
Having batted first in all their four matches this season till now, Indians’ highest score has been 159/9 (against Royals Challengers Bangalore in the season opener) in 20 overs. In addition to the score, the manner in which they haven’t done justice to the starts provided by their top three is something to be worked upon.
“After the start we got, we should have batted better in the middle overs. It is happening time and again. We aren’t able to capitalize on our starts and we need to understand as a batting unit. But you have to give credit to the Delhi [Capitals] bowlers, they kept it tight and kept taking wickets,” Sharma was quoted as saying by Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Despite dew playing a certain role especially in the second innings of IPL 2021, Sharma didn’t consider it to be a reason why his bowlers failed to pick wickets at regular intervals. Unlike previous matches, Indians had played a couple of spinners at the MA Chidambaram Stadium tonight.
“We knew dew would come in but we have seen that it’s not all that difficult to grip the ball in the last few games. Dew isn’t the factor, we need to play smart cricket to win games which we didn’t do today,” Sharma said.

Despite top-scoring for his team with his 44 (30) comprising of three fours and three sixes, Sharma didn’t field for the most part of the second innings as Kieron Pollard was seen leading the side. Being asked about the same, Sharma ensured that him not fielding was a precautionary measure and there’s nothing to worry about.
“It’s only a niggle. It should be fine,” Sharma concluded. It is worth mentioning that Indians will now face Punjab Kings at the same venue on Friday.
