“I need to drive a Supercar around Bathurst”- Daniel Ricciardo on non F1 shenanigans
“I need to drive a Supercar around Bathurst”– Daniel Ricciardo reveals that he has talked to Zak Brown about his non-F1 endeavours.
McLaren is relishing Daniel Ricciardo’s services as in the last two races, and the Australian has brought in decent performances even if not outstanding.
Whilst, he is engaged with Formula 1 at McLaren, the Woking-based team also have their investments in other motorsport events, and Ricciardo feels that he is at the right company to fulfil his aspirations.
“I do have to ask Zak. I need to – even if I don’t do the race – I need to drive a Supercar around Bathurst,” he told GP Racing as per Motorsport.com.
“Whether it’s a private test, or the actual race, I do need to do it. And I think now I have a good opportunity with Zak as a friend and a boss. He’s keen to try and get us into the other open-wheelers in the States, the IndyCars. So there’s a lot to do.”
Bathurst 1000 is the most famous race to be held at the Mount Panorama track in Australia. However, this year it will clash with the Japanese Grand Prix.
And usually, it also clashes with one or another F1 event, so it is unlikely that the Australian would be taking an odd race weekend to compete back home.
I talked to Zak Brown about future opportunities.
Maybe as of now, Ricciardo can’t leave F1 and be a part of other motorsport tournaments, but he has talked to Brown to let him have an experience with his listed tournaments.
“When I signed with him [Brown], over the early phase of last year, we had these conversations and it was thrown in there: ‘We should get you to do the 12 Hours of Bathurst’,” he added.
“If he asked me and it worked logistically, I would say yes.”
