“Russell Westbrook is the best athlete in NBA History”: Paul Pierce praises the Wizards’ star as he draws closer to Oscar Robertson’s triple-double record
Former NBA Champion Paul Pierce was nothing but praise for Russell Westbrook as he takes it to Twitter to call him the best athlete in NBA History
Russell Westbrook has been on a historic streak as of late. Last night he became the first player to have a 20-20 game without scoring 20 points. In the win over the Pacers, Russ finished the game with a triple-double, recording 14 points, 21 rebounds, and 24 assists. It was a collective team victory as nine different players scored in double digits to propel them to the win.
With his triple-double last night, Russ now is just four short of overtaking the record set by Oscar Robertson. Russell Westbrook has been on an impressive run, and it does not look like he’s bound to slow down for a bit. The Wizards have almost sealed the final play-in spot. The game against the Pacers was a first-round play-in preview and the odds seem to be stacked heavily in the Wizards’ favor.
Paul Pierce praises Russell Westbrook
It is a tragedy how the greatness of Russell Westbrook is being normalized. Russ is averaging a triple-double for the fourth season in his career. He has been averaging a triple-double for almost 400 games now, dating back to December 2015. Russ has been putting up video-game-like stats for so long, it is just ridiculous in nature.
This era is arguably one of the more competitive eras in NBA History. To come up and achieve what Brodie has in this time and date, it’s just magnificent. Paul Pierce recognizes the same, and hence, called him the ‘greatest athlete in NBA History.’
Gaaaaa Daaaam Russell Westbrook #respect best athlete in NBA history Speak on it 🧏🙉

What Pierce says might be true. While Brode may not be the GOAT player in the league, he may just be the GOAT athlete the NBA has ever seen.
Looking at the way Russ has been playing, it won’t be long before he gets the four triple-doubles to make the record his own.
