“Dwyane Wade, it’s your team”: Shaquille O’Neal shares how his time with the Miami Heat was free of any conflicts
Hall-of-Famer Shaquille O’Neal talks about his time with Dwyane Wade, after being traded to the Miami Heat from the Los Angeles Lakers
Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most dominating big men to ever play in the NBA. His dominance throughout the late 90s and early 2000s could not be ignored. Shaq began the new millennium with a three-peat, with Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. However, due to some personal differences, the duo of Kobe and Shaq could not co-exist in LA together. That led to the Lakers trading Shaquille O’Neal all the way over to the East coast to the Miami Heat.
O’Neal’s time in Miami was limited, but the team found success in that duration as well. In his three years there, the NBA and the world saw Miami win a title, as well as the emergence of a young star Dwyane Wade.
Shaquille O’Neal explains how things were so smooth amidst him and Dwyane Wade
After his experience in Los Angeles was a bit troublesome, Shaq had learned his lesson when he got traded. As soon as he joined the Heat, Shaq talked to Wade and re-affirmed him that he is still the Alpha. Shaq told Wade that he is there to do whatever to help with the win.
In his recent appearance on the ‘All the Smoke’ podcast, Shaq reveals how he and Dwyane Wade kept things smooth.
When I got to D-Wade, I was like, ‘I know you heard all the stories, it’s your team.‘ What I should have did in L.A… You’re the CEO, I’ll be the consultant. When the Lakers were talking about trading me, I was like, ‘I know where I wanna go.’ I wanna go back to Florida….. and play with him (Dwyane Wade).
“As soon as I got there I said, ‘look man, you have this, you have heard that, me and you gonna have no problem, you’re the man. Take as many shots as you want. I have to get 28, 10 to make everybody feel good, think myself real good. We never had problems.
Shaq says he told Dwyane Wade as soon as he got to Miami that it was his team:

Both Wade and O’Neal had a stellar partnership, and the 2006 championship is proof of the same.
