“Kyrie Irving you have a JOB to DO! DO your JOB!”: Stephen A. Smith blasts the Nets star for saying that he’s not focused on basketball
Senior NBA Analyst Stephen A. Smith takes shots at Kyrie Irving for his speech saying that he’s not focused on basketball currently
The regular season is all wrapped up for the year 2020-2021. The last month of the regular season saw a lot of shifts in power and dynamics. Almost no one could have accurately predicted the standings the way they have ended up currently. The Sixers are the top team in the East, leaving the Nets at 2nd and the Bucks at 3rd. In the midst of all this, there has been a continuous battle for life going on all the way over in Palestine.
Recently Kyrie Irving talked about the Israel-Ghaza issue and admitted that he cant totally focus on basketball, because of what’s happening there. While as a person, one is proud of Kyrie for speaking up about things like this. However, as a fan, you do not want to hear your star player admit this just as playoffs begin.
Stephen A. Smith goes off about Kyrie Irving having split focus
Just like Kyrie Irving did not mince his words about where his priorities lie, neither did Stephen A. Smith. On the latest episode of First Take, Stephen A. went off after Kyrie for lacking at his job because of being passionate about a cause.
“We all care about that,” Smith stated on ESPN’s First Take. “We don’t want to see people dying, we don’t want to see people struggling, we don’t want to see people starving. Of course, particularly if you’re Black. You have been ravaged by racism and prejudice and bigotry and being marginalized and minimized. We all go through that. This is not new to him. So when you sit up there and look at people and you say stuff like that, you’re talking to other people and you’re saying, ‘Well this might not be on your mind, but it’s on my mind.’
…And the fact is you don’t know. It’s just that people may have jobs to do. Like you have a job to do. So while you’re there, just do it. Do your job,” Smith added. “… Your job might actually be, not just playing basketball, but answering questions about it for 10 minutes.”

While what Kyrie is doing is great, it should not come at the expense of his performance at his job. With the playoffs just around the corner, the Nets fans would hope their star returns his attention towards the game.
