“Little kids dreaming of potentially getting to Formula 1, IndyCar, Formula E” – Max Verstappen is leading a wave of young motorsport stars from the Netherlands.

The United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy could be considered the ‘Holy Trinity’ of motorsports, especially in Formula 1. But the Netherlands is in a fiery revival mode, led by the Red Bull star Max Verstappen.

Along with him, Robin Frijns and Nyck de Vries are currently leading the Formula E drivers’ standings while Rinus Veekay took IndyCar by storm by winning the Indy Grand Prix last weekend. When asked about his contribution to the Dutch revival in motor racing, Verstappen credited his aforementioned compatriots too.

“The guys in Formula E are older than me so I have nothing to do with that!

“I don’t know, I just try to get the best out of myself. That is what I have been working on since I was very little and of course, now, since I have got to Formula 1, of course, the sport is getting more and more popular in Holland again.

“It is great to see all the little kids dreaming of potentially getting to Formula 1, IndyCar, Formula E, whatever they want to do. I definitely enjoy it.”

Dutch Grand Prix back on the F1 Calendar

He also expressed delight with the return of Circuit Zandvoort to the F1 Calendar, after a gap of 36 years. The race was to make its comeback last year, but the pandemic ruined the plans.

The Dutch Grand Prix will now be held on the 5th of September, with neutrals and Hollanders hoping Lewis Hamilton has not run away with the championship by then.

“My main focus is on myself at the moment. If that automatically inspires kids in Holland, of course, we have the Grand Prix back, it is great. Hopefully, we can keep it going for a long time.”
