“It’s not every day that we have the chance to be in such a good place”– Charles Leclerc on one-off chance to win in 2021
“It’s not every day that we have the chance to be in such a good place”– Charles Leclerc thinks Monaco was one rare chance to win.
Ferrari managed to grab a podium from Monaco Grand Prix, but the results might have been better if Charles Leclerc would have started the race with his pole position.
The Monegasque was eventually hit by his Monaco curse and couldn’t start the race, which Leclerc thinks was a one-off opportunity to win the race.
“Of course it is difficult because it’s at home,” he said. “It’s not every day that we have the chance to be in such a good place. But at the end it’s like this, it’s part of motorsports.”
“And these things can happen. As Mattia [Binotto, Ferrari team principal] said, that’s what I will try to remember from this weekend, all the positive signs we’ve had. We are coming back from quite far, if we see last year, so we’ve done a good job by improving races after races.”
“Here it might be a one-off to be fighting for the win, but that doesn’t mean that there has been no progress.”
Ferrari has made gains.
Last year, despite a poor season, Ferrari made three podium appearances, two by Leclerc and one by Sebastia Vettel, and citing last year’s example, he feels Ferrari has progressed.
“We are on the good road; we are working well. Surely the luck was not on my side this weekend and its life. “I’ll just get over it; think about Baku; I’m very, very motivated to be back in the car and to have an excellent result, hopefully.”
Presently, Ferrari stands fourth in the constructors’ championship, only two points behind McLaren, and Azerbaijan would be the new fighting spot to be the third-best car on the grid.
