“I was trying to get LeBron James mad”: When Lance Stephenson gave us one of the most memed moments ever by blowing into the Lakers star’s ear
Seven years ago, we got to witness the infamous and hilarious moment when Lance Stephenson blew air into LeBron James’ ear.
LeBron James is definitely one of the greatest players of all time. His individual accolades and endurance are what makes his strong case for the GOAT conversation next to Michael Jordan. Rightfully, several players have called LBJ unguardable. All sorts of defensive styles and plays have been tried and tested to stop the King.
However, one infamous play, that managed to become an internet laughing stock was the time when Lance Stephenson blew into Bron’s ear. 7 years back, during the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals, LeBron and his Miami Heat played against a Paul George-led Indiana Pacers team. Hoping to win their second consecutive title, the Heat were the favourites to win the matchup.
Even though the Heat won the series, Stephenson gave us one of the most iconic moments ever. Early in the fourth quarter of Game 5, while standing next to King James, Lance blew into LBJ’s ears. To date, it remains to be one of the most memed moments in NBA history.

“I was trying to get LeBron James unfocused”: Lance Stephenson
The result? LBJ finished the game with only 7 points and 4 assists, with the Pacers forcing a Game 6. However, it was Bron who had the last laugh as the Heat demolished Indiana in Game 6 and went on to their fourth-consecutive finals appearance.
Years later, when asked about the incident Lance openly admitted that all he wanted to do was distract Bron.
“There were a lot of serious moments in the season where we was talking junk, going after each other. I was really trying to get him mad — like, really trying to win the game, get him unfocused, and I was trying anything.”
“For you to do something to somebody and they don’t respond, they keep continuing and playing hard, it’s like, ‘Yo, what, how do I get in this … how do I? But LeBron was such a good player. I was just trying to do anything to get him frustrated.”
Clearly, Lance Stephenson did all sorts of things to help his team win.
