“It’s good”– FIA adds stickers to cars to inspect flexi wings
“It’s good”– FIA adds 12 stickers to the cars to inspect the Flexi wings amidst a potential threat of protests by three teams led by Mercedes.
The Flexi wings are the biggest talking point in Formula 1 this weekend, as the top 2 teams– Red Bull and Mercedes are at the opposing ends in this issue.
However, FIA has stood against violating the flexible limits of car components, and a test has been declared to control this situation. But the timing of the tests has been objected by the prosecutors.
The test is not scheduled before the French Grand Prix, which is at the end of this month but to dilute the anger of the teams, FIA has placed stickers on the teams to inspect the Flexi wings.
“It’s good to see that these stickers have been introduced for this weekend, which gives the FIA a better possibility to measure what’s going on,” said McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl.
“To my understanding, these dots simply help to measure what’s happening because when we look at the videos from Barcelona, it’s difficult to get detailed numbers in terms of what is flexing and how exactly.”
Not sure of engagement in the protest
Mercedes has confirmed that they would knock on the doors of stewards if Red Bull enters with the same car, but McLaren’s approach is a little different, and they might not even join the protest.
“I don’t want to go into discussion of a protest at the moment,” Seidl added. “In general, it doesn’t make sense to do anything before the event, because you can change your event on Saturday morning. There’s no point in doing anything on a Friday night.”
The FP1 in Baku has already been confirmed, and Red Bull has used the same machinery, with Max Verstappen topping the session’s chart.
