“Formula 1 would like an American driver” – Haas team principal Guenther Steiner
“Formula 1 would like an American driver” – Haas team boss Guenther Steiner has spoken to F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali about the prospect of getting in an American driver.
The last American driver in Formula 1 was Alexander Rossi, who took part in five GPs with Marussia in 2015. Meanwhile, Haas, the only American team on the roster, has not had a driver from the country in its six-year history. Currently, the team has a German and Russian – Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin – as its drivers.
Can we count Alexander Rossi seeing as the only chance he got was in a shite Marussia for a few races? https://t.co/fowAh0GAiO

But Guenther Steiner has revealed they are looking at few prospects in Formula 3. He added he has spoken to F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who is keen to see more American participation. The US GP in Austin, Texas is a mega-affair, with Miami being considered as an additional venue for the future.
“Formula 1 would like an American driver, we (Haas) would like one.
“At the moment, obviously, they are looking into it. There is one thing out there, the Super Licence, which not many have got. But for sure, we are always looking. I spoke with Stefano about it, what could be done, what couldn’t be done, and we tried to make a plan for the future.
“It needs to be something not immediate because you cannot do anything to get somebody in because of the Super Licence but obviously it will come. We just need to be patient and at some stage. There are a few guys in Formula 3 that look promising. Let’s see what can be done.”
