Musa Khan: The young fast bowler had the last laugh against the tried and tested hard-hitting all-rounder in Abu Dhabi.

During the 18th match of the ongoing sixth season of the Pakistan Super League between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators in Abu Dhabi, Islamabad United fast bowler Muhammad Musa Khan got the priced scalp of Quetta Gladiators all-rounder Andre Russell but only after conceding a couple of sixes in the same over.

Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 13th over, Russell ran a single on the first ball he faced to retain strike in the following over. Bowling his third over, Khan initially gave the impression of bowling to Russell’s strength as the hard-hitting batsman clobbered a couple of sixes through the deep mid-wicket area.

On the following delivery, Khan was brave enough to not just bowl a bouncer but also target it to perfection as it ended up hitting Russell’s helmet. As is the protocol these days, Russell underwent a concussion test before resuming his innings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Khan, who bowled another short delivery on the penultimate delivery of the over, eventually dismissed Russell as he ended up hitting the ball straight to Mohammad Wasim at short third man. While Russell’s short stay of him scoring 13 (6) was an entertaining one, Gladiators needed from him tonight.

After being put in to bat first by United captain Shadab Khan, Gladiators could only manage 133/10 in 20 overs. Playing his first match in the PSL, Jake Weatherald top-scored for his team with 43 (35) with the help of three fours and two sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-12-2, Wasim was the pick of the bowlers for Islamabad.
