“He still has a few weaknesses”– Verstappen judges Sergio Perez
“He still has a few weaknesses”– Jos Verstappen finds faults in Sergio Perez’s performances with Red Bull, despite good results.
While Red Bull is relishing the balance Sergio Perez has brought to the team, which they craved for the last couple of years. Jos Verstappen still believes that the Mexican race driver still has to improve.
The former F1 driver believes that Perez has to improve himself in qualifying, as in most of the races, he has missed on to the front row starts, and keeps clearing the deficit on Sunday.
“He still has a few weaknesses,” Jos Verstappen told F1-Insider. “Perez has to improve a bit in qualifying to help Max, so far he’s been doing a very good job, it works really well.”
Perez had a rocky start to his 2021 campaign, but finally, he got comfortable and brought in impressive results, to now be at P3 in the drivers’ standings.
Why Max is calm?
The father of current Red Bull doyen– Max Verstappen believes that presently he knows he can win races, as Red Bull has given him a much better car.
“He knows he can win any race. Before that, Mercedes was always much faster, this year is different. He knows he’s racing for the championship and that he can’t make mistakes.”
“This year is an opportunity and Red Bull wants to do everything possible to take advantage of this opportunity. The car is good, the engine has gotten better. We’re on par because we’ve got some upgrades that work.”
Furthermore, he talks about the current competition between his son and Lewis Hamilton, who are currently vying for the championship. According to Verstappen snr. they both are class drivers.
“Lewis and Max are at eye level,” Verstappen said. “It’s difficult to compare because they’re in different cars. They are the two best drivers in Formula 1. Lewis has a lot of experience.”
“But Max has been with us for a long time. He’s been working with his own engineer for six years. Max knows what he’s doing and he can read the race well.”
