“Dwyane Wade is seriously concerned about Donovan Mitchell’s desire to stay in Utah”: Jazz part-owner and his mentee seem to be at odds regarding franchise’s future

Dwyane Wade and Donovan Mitchell seemed to be, on paper, a match made in heaven for the Jazz. But Brian Windhorst believes otherwise.

Wade took over as a minority owner of the Utah Jazz a few months earlier. This was a decision met with a great reception from both NBA fans as well as NBA media. After all, we’ve spent quite some time comparing the duo’s gameplay to one another.

Many basketball fans see the Spida as a true follower of the MJ, D-Wade school of slashing guards. On the offensive end, what sets Mitchell apart from two of his idols is his shooting range. This man seems to be trending towards becoming a truly elite shooter in the league.

Mitchell is, at the moment, working to improve his shooting, and the results have already bore a little fruit. He’s gone up from a measly 25.6% from range in 2019 to an above-average 38.6% in the 2020-21 regular season.

However, there are many other strides that the Spida would need to make to become a truly transcendent star. He plays like a shooting guard at the moment, but he’ll have to become an elite playmaker. Without being able to exploit Rudy Gobert in the pick-and-roll, Mitchell will plateau as a player.

Brian Windhorst says Dwyane Wade is uncertain whether Donovan Mitchell stays in Utah

The manner of the Jazz’s playoff exit this year cannot have been palatable for the Spida. Despite his best efforts on offense, he was abused on the other end of the floor by the Clippers’ perimeter guys.

Reggie Jackson, Terance Mann, Kawhi Leonard, Marcus Morris and Paul George all took their turns to cook him. It got to a point where the Jazz had to pick their poison between leaving the help defender’s man open or letting the Spida get cooked.

But it seems that the Spida, having got his max extension, is now trying to strong-arm the front office. Brian Windhorst said on his Hoops Collective podcast today that he might be looking for a change in scenario.
