Shubman Gill injury: What happened to Shubman Gill? Will Gill play 1st Test vs England?
Shubman Gill injury: The rookie Indian batsman is reportedly injured and is in line to miss the first Test against England.
India batsman Shubman Gill is said to have suffered an injury which could keep him out of the first Test against England starting from August 4 in Nottingham.
Gill, 21, won’t return to India for rehabilitation. Instead, the right-hand batsman will strive towards recovery during his stay with the national squad and is likely to press a case for selection as the five-match Test series goes ahead.
Given the month-long time period ahead of the Test series, there’s a strong possibility of Gill playing some part in this series.

In eight Tests, Gill’s 414 runs have come at an average of 31.84 with the help of three half-centuries. In his most recent outing against New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton, Gill had scored 28 and 8.
Shubman Gill injury
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Gill has suffered an internal injury which will prevent him from returning to the field. While Gill’s calf, shin or hamstring is said to be affected, it is highly likely to result in India selecting one out of Mayank Agarwal and Lokesh Rahul as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner in the first Test.
While the last of Agarwal’s 14 Tests had come during the tour of Australia earlier this year, the last of Rahul’s 36 Tests had come during the tour of West Indies in 2019. Considering how Rahul’s last first-class appearance had come more than a year ago, he is unlikely to pin down Agarwal for the second opener’s role at Trent Bridge.
As far as playing Test cricket in England is concerned, Agarwal hasn’t played at the highest level in the English conditions. Rahul, on the other hand, has played five Tests in England.
