WI vs AUS 2021: Shimron Hetmyer bravely scoops Mitchell Starc for a six to bring up second T20I half-century
Shimron Hetmyer bravely scoops Mitchell Starc: The West Indian batsman played a career-best knock at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
During the second T20I of the ongoing Australia’s tour of West Indies in St Lucia, West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer not just scored his second half-century in the format but also registered a career-best score of 61 (36) with the help of two fours and four sixes.
Coming in to bat at No. 4 inside the powerplay, Hetmyer soon witnessed the return of veteran batsman Chris Gayle (13). With another veteran in Dwayne Bravo replacing him, Hetmyer shared a 103-run partnership for the fourth wicket to power the hosts to 196/4 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first by Australia captain Aaron Finch.
Having played 13 deliveries, it was in the 13th over when Hetmyer scored his first boundary in the form of a six off Australia all-rounder Ashton Agar. The 24-year old player followed it with sixes against Mitchell Marsh and Adam Zampa in the next two overs.

It was on the third delivery of the 17th over that Hetmyer was brave enough to nail a scoop to perfection against Australia speedster Mitchell Starc to cross the 50-run mark. Before getting run-out in the following over, Hetmyer further added a couple of boundaries to his total.
In what is a second consecutive shambolic batting performance by the visitors, they were bundled out for 140 in 19.2 overs. A 56-run victory means that West Indies have gained a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. With bowling figures of 4-0-29-3, West Indies spinner Hayden Walsh was the pick of their bowlers at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.

Hetmyer is run out! He was slightly slow to react. Fielded by Wade. He played a great knock! He walks for 61. WIndies are 162/4 at 17.5. #WIvAUS

Much much better batting in the middle overs by West Indies today. Superb strike rotation compared to their usual standards. Hope Hetmyer moves up to #3 once Pollard is back and he settles down there. He’s most suited to play that Marlon Samuels-like role in this team.#WIvAUS

Hetmyer and Bravo doing some real damage in these middle overs. Looks like Aus will have a significantly higher total to chase this time. 3-118 after 14. #WIvAUS
