Kobe Bryant. What is there left to say about this man?

He was someone who put his all into basketball, but whose legacy extends far beyond it. As an athlete, he still stands as one of the top-3 players in NBA history. He had a relentless mentality- a Mamba Mentality. And even as he grew into the persona of Sage Mamba after his playing career, that mentality never left.

Before he modeled his own nickname after a snake though, there was another mantra he lived by. One that ran much deeper, and perhaps, stayed with him until the day of tragedy. A mantra he once revealed to the world just a few short years ago.

Kobe Bryant once announced the mantra he inherited from his English Teacher in High School

 And frankly, it’s the most Kobe mantra you’ll ever hear.

The Lakers legend always had the talent. Even in a relatively small high school on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Kobe Bryant was so good, he attracted national attention. But, what always put him over the top, was his way of thinking. His audacity, tenacity, and willingness to be the best in the world.

Bryant never really slacked. However, this mentality to commit came only when his English teacher inspired him in a special way during a class. Here is how the Lakers legend described it, during his appearance on ‘The School of Greatness‘ podcast.

“He had a great quote: ‘Rest at the end, not in the middle’. That’s something I always live by.”

Greatness isn’t always inspired by something divine or awe-inspiring. Sometimes, it can be on a mundane weekday in school.

The NBA community will always remember the greatness of Kobe Bryant. Truly, he never stopped working, until the very end.
