“His racing speed was very satisfactory from the start”– Sergio Perez nears contract extension with Red Bull
“His racing speed was very satisfactory from the start”– Sergio Perez is eyeing a contract extension with Red Bull after an impactful year.
Sergio Perez has solved Red Bull’s second seat struggles with an impressive season with them so far, and it may give him an extension to his contract, as the current contract between the two parties has an option to extend it by another year.
Red Bull chief Helmut Marko talks about how significantly Perez has Red Bull’s long-standing problem, indicating that they will extend the alliance for another year at least.
🗣 “I’m very disappointed with my weekend and my performance. I wasn’t able to make as much progress as expected and found myself in a very difficult position with the tyres.” @SChecoPerez on the #BritishGP 🇬🇧 pic.twitter.com/CayXG5SVnW

“We brought in Perez so that we could have a second strong man,” Helmut Marko told F1-Insider. “His racing speed was very satisfactory from the start. There was still a bit of a hitch in qualifying, but that has also gotten better. He gets along very well with Verstappen.”
It’s a natural thing
Perez is running fifth in the championship race, courtesy of his recent debacles in Austria and England, but still, several races in the season are left to recover.
“I see it as a natural thing,” the Mexican told RacingNews365.com and other select media when asked in Austria about his plans for next season.
“Once you’re comfortable in a team, working with them and the team working with you, it’s something that naturally should happen very smoothly.”
Red Bull had a comprehensive lead in the championship against Mercedes, but Max Verstappen’s crash and Perez starting from the pitlane was enough to know that Mercedes will be cropping a massive deficit.
Now the whole contingent is travelling to Hungary before the three-week-long summer break, and Red Bull needs to cement on their championship-winning prospects.
