“Luka Doncic, Steph Curry, James Harden and Trae Young are finished”: NBA Twitter reacts to new offensive foul rules that prohibit arm-hooking and shooters’ exaggerated follow-throughs
NBA Twitter piles on Luka Doncic, Trae Young, James Harden and other star offensive players after offensive foul rule changes.
NBA insider Shams Charania posted a Twitter update confirming the league’s decision last evening. This comes in the wake of the 2021 playoffs when many fans were disgruntled with offensive players bending the rules.
Foul-baiting and flopping are 2 very irritating behavioral traits displayed by NBA players on the court. Purist basketball fans have long called for action on plays that go against the spirit of fair, competitive basketball.
Ever since the implementation of the ‘Zaza rule’, the NBA has seen an epidemic of players throwing their legs out while taking 3-point shots. Jae Crowder and James Harden are 2 of several players who garner free throws regularly using this tactic.
NBA officiating staffs will be trained to identify and properly rule overt non-basketball actions to initiate contact with defender — such as offensive player launches into defender, abruptly veers off path, kicks leg at abnormal angle, or his off-arm hooks defender. https://t.co/XE9HxIRDSK

NBA Fans roast Luka Doncic, James Harden and Trae Young following announcement of rule changes
There are 2 other types of foul-baiting that basketball fans are indignant with. Offensive players launching into defenders or veering off their paths is one of those playtypes. Trae Young and Chris Paul are often guilty of foul-baiting in this fashion.
Off-arm hooks, as employed by James Harden and other star ball-handlers, are universally lambasted. They’re already offensive fouls as per current rules, but the grey areas around it have muddied the refereeing jobs.
NBA Twitter is practically jubilant at the implementation of these rules. Fans genuinely believe that these new rules concerning offensive fouls will limit foul-baiting.
This is the best rule change they’ve made in a while. Guys like Trae, Luka, Steph, Harden, Dame etc are phenomenal players but this was easily the most annoying part about their games

Two most important plays they need to address:
1) Leaning into a defender after a fake to draw a 3 (should be no call)
2) Stopping with the ball while ahead of the defender to purposely cause them to collide from behind. Dangerous play. Should be flagrant 1 on offensive player
