India’s key player injured ahead of South Africa tour
India have been dealt a severe blow to their lineup ahead of South Africa tour as the news has come in saying that Parthiv Patel badly hurt his left hand’s middle finger.
This comes as a huge blow to Parthiv Patel who must have been delighted to get another call up with the national team.
Patel played his first Test after 8 years replaced Wriddhiman Saha during the home series against England in the last November.
After that, he wasn’t given any fair amount of chances. But this time he certainly made the cut into the Indian team squad for South Africa but an unfortunate injury struck him now which puts himself in jeopardy.
Gujarat skipper Parthiv Patel encountered an injury while keeping wickets during the running Ranji Trophy quarter-final battle against Bengal at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.
Just after picking a blow on his finger, Parthiv Patel was in great pain and couldn’t continue any longer the next second. The injury was so severe that he kept him from the game for the rest of Day 4.
Parthiv Patel who left the field with immediate effect to take medication was then replaced by the backup wicket keeper Anuj Rawal. The latter managed to keep the wickets for the entire day.
Manprit Juneja, Gujarat batsman who saw Parthiv getting injured at the scene, said that he (Parthiv) picked up multiple blows to his finger and was severely injured.
He is not really sure of the condition and Parthiv Patel’s chances of marking his presence for South Africa tour is a tad bleak until the next injury update.
“He got hit twice or thrice on his finger and it was hurting badly. Not sure what the update is on his injury though,” Manprit Juneja said at the end of day’s play, as reported by Cricbuzz.
