Ravi Shastri wants the Indian Team to train in Dharamshala before South Africa tour
The Indian team suffered a drubbing at the hands of the Sri Lankan team in the seamer friendly Dharamshala conditions, where the Lankan bowlers were calling the shots, and the Indian batsman, quite literally, dancing to their tunes.
None of the Indian top order batsman could apply themselves on a track that posed questions that were pertinent and not at all unanswerable. Failure to adjust to the conditions meant that MS Dhoni had to do the cleaning up, along with the tail, helping India avoid an embarrassing afternoon in the picturesque Dharamshala.
What was even more baffling was seeing the batsmen so unprepared for seaming tracks despite the upcoming South African tour, one that would pose similar and possibly more threatening questions.
After the shambolic performance of the batsmen, Ravi Shastri has taken a bold step in asking BCCI to let the Indian team train at Dharamshala before flying off to South Africa.
Ravi Shastri hasn’t officially taken up the matter with the BCCI, but an official from the HPCA stadium at Dharamshala confirmed that Shastri had indeed spoken to the concerned authorities at the HPCA stadium about it.
“Yes, coach Shastri and the team management are keen to have a short camp or at least organise a few training sessions for the Test players before leaving for South Africa”. the HPCA official said.
“They were encouraged with the conditions here because nowhere in India will they get pitches like these which are pretty close to what they will face in South Africa. We are ready and will be happy to host the players once we get instructions from the BCCI,” he concluded.
This move could do wonders for the Indian team before flying out to South Africa, having already cancelled the first practice, as the Indian administration thought that a camp like environment would work better for the Indian team!
