MS Dhoni to miss Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Former Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has chosen to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.
The wicket-keeper batsman, who is currently enjoying time with his family in Ranchi, on Wednesday informed the officials at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) that he will not be a part of Jharkand team in the tournament.
“Yesterday, Dhoni has officially told us that he would not be available for the tournament,” Debasish Chakrabarty, secretary JSCA revealed. Sportstar.
With MS Dhoni regularly visiting the stadium in Jharkand to train, the Association’s officials were hoping against hope that the former Indian skipper would turn up for the state team in the T20 tournament.
However, Dhoni has cleared the speculations over his selection, and now JSCA has decided to select the squad with players who are available.
Chennai Super Kings, who suffered a two-year suspension from the IPL, retained the 36-year-old, with rumours claiming that Dhoni will want to play the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament to stay fit before the illustrious league. However, this was not to be.
While Jharkhand will not have Dhoni in their ranks, the Baroda team has excluded their experienced player Irfan Pathan from their squad. Young all-rounder Deepak Hooda will lead the Baroda side.
With Irfan Pathan being excluded from the state team, there were rumours that the left-handed all-rounder would think to call time on his career. However, in an interview, Pathan revealed that he hasn’t considered retirement as of now.
With Irfan Pathan dropped, his brother Yusuf Pathan will be available only after the 10th of January, which means both the Pathan brothers will miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.
On the other hand, former wicket-keeper, Nayan Mongia’s son, Mohit Mongia has been included as a part of the squad.
