Manzoor Dar is creating waves in J&K cricket

For a state as ravaged by politics as Jammu and Kashmir, any feel good story that comes out from there is celebrated widely across the country.

It is no wonder that people, not only J&K but all over the nation, really got behind Parvez Rasool when he first burst on to the scene. Rasool became the first player from J&K to take part in the IPL in 2013, when he was picked up the now defunct Rising Pune Super giants.

Rassol went on to play for RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad, as the off-spinner impressed one and all with his skill and guile with the ball. Now a cult hero in his home state, Rasool’s success has inspired other youngsters in the J&K, as many cricketers want to follow the off-spinner’s footsteps.

One such player is Manzoor Dar. The 24-year-old weightlifter, kabaddi player, a security guard and a wood artist, could very well see himself picked in the IPL auction, that is set to take place in a few weeks time.

Manzoor is very confident in his abilities, as the big man has his eyes set on the the IPL stage. “I am targeting IPL. Let us see how it goes,” he said.

J&K coach Abdul Qayoom said, “He is Mr 100 meter sixer man. He gives the ball a real thump. Last year in a match with Punjab, he hit a few sixes that were 100 meters plus.”

“This boy has the talent for the shorter game. Give him 12 to 15 deliveries and he will tilt the game in his team’s favor.”

Very much in the Chris Gayle and Yusuf Pathan mould, Manzoor could very well become a sensation if he gets picked in auction.
