JUST IN: Ambati Rayudu given two match ban for breaching BCCI Code of Conduct

Ambati Rayudu has been handed a two-match ban by the BCCI for breaching the BCCI code of conduct in a Syed Mushtaq Ali match between Hyderabad and Karnataka on January 11.

Rayudu has been suspended because of an apparent altercation with the umpire, after he contested the umpire’s decision of giving Karnataka two extra runs, for an incident it took place during Karnataka’s first innings.

Karun Nair had flicked a ball off his pads towards the mid-wicket boundary with Karnataka adding two runs to the score board, but while fielding the ball at mid-wicket, Mehdi Hasan had touched the rope, and Karnataka should have been given a boundary, but the umpires decided not to check with TV footage and hence the boundary was not given.

When Karnataka came out to bowl in the second innings, Vinay Kumar walked up to the umpire, talking to him about the entire situation and two runs were added to Karnataka’s total.

Rayudu was clearly flustered as he felt that runs shouldn’t have been added to Karnataka’s total, after a decision had already been taken during the first innings.

But the umpires finally decided to add 2 runs to Karnataka’s total on Vinay Kumar’s request.

And what further lead to Rayudu’s frustration was that Hyderabad finally won the game by 2 runs.

“There was some confusion in the middle at the start of our innings. What I went and told the umpire was ‘sir you cannot change the score, we are batting for 204 as our target.

“At the end, we went and asked to start the Super Over. That is exactly our point of contention. We never even thought of stopping the second match, that has got nothing to do with us. We were insisting that our match was not complete, we still have to play the Super Over. That is exactly why we went to the middle, we were actually going to warm up then,”  Rayudu said.
