South Africa vs Bangladesh Man of the Match: Who was awarded Man of the Match in SA vs BAN?

South Africa vs Bangladesh Man of the Match: Bangladesh all-rounder was declared the Man of the Match for his exceptional show.

During the fifth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between South Africa and Bangladesh at The Oval, Bangladesh put on display a source of amazement for one and all in the form of a 21-run victory against the Proteas.

Other than Bangladesh commencing the tournament on an affirmative note, the match will also be remembered for them scoring their highest-ever ODI score. The best part about the victory was Bangladesh delivering as a unit across departments.

There were occasions when South Africa had started to take control in the match. It was during those times that Bangladesh stood tall to defy tough situations and stage a comeback in the match.

Bangladesh’s outstanding victory saw senior Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan winning the Man of the Match award for his all-round display of brilliance. Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the ninth over, Shakib stitched a 142-run stand for the third wicket alongside wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim.

Before getting out in the 36th over, Shakib scored his 43rd ODI half-century, 75 (84), with the help of eight fours and a six. With the ball in hand, Shakib gave 50 runs in 10 overs and picked up the important wicket of South Africa opening batsman Aiden Markram (45) in the 20th over.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Shakib considered the win among their topmost victories in ODIs. Despite having winning momentum with his team, Shakib admitted to remaining careful against New Zealand for their next match.

“It will be one of our top wins, we’ve upset a few sides. This is my fourth World Cup, and this is the tournament where we want to prove something. The start can’t get better than this. This is the start we needed, we had the belief as we came in to England.

“My two years with Worcestershire helped me a lot. Didn’t know my partnership with Mushfiqur [Rahim] was a record, we needed to hold the innings together, did it perfectly. Confidence is up, but have to play our best cricket against New Zealand, who always do well at ICC events,” Shakib was quoted as saying.
