Manchester United looking to snatch Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona
Barcelona are in a very precarious situation with Samuel Umtiti. The versatile Frenchman has been a revelation at the back, as has slowly become one of the first names of the team sheet.
But there seems to be major problem brewing at the Nou Camp, as Umtiti is reportedly unhappy with the fact that Paco Alcacer earns almost a million euros more than him despite not even playing the quarter of his playing time at Barcelona.
According to Spanish El Chiringuito, the 24-year-old French defender is distressed over his pay scale.
“Umtiti has asked Barça to go to the cashier, as all players do.
“The Frenchman saw (Paco) Alcacer’s contract and realized that he was earning €4m and Alcacer €5m. Therefore, he wants to earn €8m per season.
“If he has not yet a destination, it is Manchester United and Jose Mourinho that he could join with his release clause currently €60m.”
A relatively non-existent member of the Barcelona squad, Paco Alcacer battles for play-time with the Catalans, while a regular on the team sheet, Umtiti battles for not only equal but double wages.
Umtiti has told Barca they have a month to give him a new and improved contract, otherwise he’s off to Old Trafford. And Barcelona boss Valverde remains confident that the Frenchman will continue with Barcelona.
We now hear the Barcelona and Umtiti’s representatives have understood to have agreed upon a gentleman’s agreement, which means that Umtiti will sign on his newly negotiated contract on the first day of the new financial year.
But that leaves the door open for someone like a Manchester United, who can swoop right in and bring the Frenchman to Old Trafford.
