MS Dhoni to return to Test cricket
Ever since Dhoni hung up his boots for India from the longest form of cricket, India have been in search of a dependable wicketkeeper batsman. While Saha does provide that assurance behind the stumps, he is no MS Dhoni with the bat.
Wicketkeepers generally have to bat with the tail, and have to be explosive at the same time, so as to ensure that while the tail is focussed on preserving its wicket, the wicketkeeper is getting those important runs at the fag end of the innings.
MS Dhoni was pivotal in that role for India, as he had the required acumen and skill to hang around when needed and go ballistic whenever quick runs were necessary.
Also, with Dhoni, you could go in with 5 specialist bowlers, as Dhoni coming in at 6 would mean essentially playing with 6 quality batsmen.
And not to forget, Dhoni’s leadership, a trait that has earned him so much respect in the International circuit right through his career.
While Dhoni has still continued to play the limited overs formats of the game, he is now looking for a comeback to the Indian team in Test cricket as well, considering the two important away tours this year.
At a promotional event for CSK, Dhoni confirmed that he would indeed be making his comeback to the Indian test side for the historic Afghan test and might even the lead the side in Virat Kohli’s absence.
“To be honest, I have been missing it. Test cricket is special to every cricketer, it provides you with challenges that no other form can and hence I want to play it again” Dhoni said.
When asked, when he would return to donning those whites, Dhoni confirmed that it would indeed be the Afghan test in Bangalore.
“I have spoken to the BCCI and I will be available for selection for the Afghanistan test in Bangalore.
“Hopefully I make it to the XI” Dhoni concluded.
This news comes as a huge surprise for Indian fans as Dhoni had made a conscious decision to step aside from the longest format so as to prolong his limited overs career.
