KKR announce Tom Curran as Mitchell Starc’s replacement
KKR’s troubles have gone from bad to worse in the build to the IPL. All their foreign recruits have sustained injuries and Sunil Narine is currently facing a race against time to get his action cleared before the cash rich tournament starts on the 7th of April.
Mitchell Starc’s injury before the 4th Test of the ongoing South Africa vs Australia series meant that KKR had lost the spearhead of their bowling attack(as Starc’s foot injury had ruled him out of the IPL too).
KKR have now announced Tom Curran as the replacement for Mitchell Starc, and he will be joining the Knight Riders’ squad in a few days.
South Africa born Curran made his T20 debut for England in June 2017 against his ‘home country’ South Africa. Ever since his debut he has been mighty impressive for the English team, across all formats, having also featured during the 2017-18 Ashes.
Curran bowls during the death for England and has picked up 7 wickets in his 6 T20 Internationals. His economy though is on the higher side(9+) but that can be the case when your bowling on those mini New Zealand grounds.
Tom has played 51 T20s in his first class career and has picked up 53 wickets bowling with an average of 27.16.
He can also use the long handle coming down the order.
The KKR think tank would be hoping that Lynn and Russell can get fit for the 2018 campaign, otherwise this team could have lost the plot even before stepping foot on the ground in the IPL.
The IPL is scheduled to begin on the 7th of April at the Wankhede with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in the season opener.
