Steve Smith will not challenge his one year ban imposed by CA
Australia’s disaster tour of South Africa has just ended, as they were humiliated by the home side by a huge 492 runs in the final test.
It was to be expected though, as their star players David Warner and Steve Smith were handed one year bans for their involvement in ball tampering scandal. Batsman Cameron Bancroft was also given with nine months ban.
Landing back in the homeland, the trio attended the press conference at different places. During the press conference, the trio apologized to all the fans for their mistake with Smith and Warner seen crying during their press conferences.
However, they were reports earlier that the trio might challenge the punishment given by their board and seek legal advice regarding the ban handed over to them.
Former Australian captain Steve Smith made it clear that he takes the responsibility of the incident and is not looking to challenge the punishment imposed on him. He took it to social media website Twitter to make everything clear and stated that he accepts the punishment.
“I would give anything to have this behind me and be back representing my country. But I meant what I said about taking full responsibility as Captain of the team. I won’t be challenging the sanctions. They’ve been imposed by CA to send a strong message and I have accepted them,” he said in a tweet.
This tweet clears that Smith respects the decision taken by the board and he will look to come back even stronger. However, we might get to see a new version of Smith next year.
Smith has decided not to challenge the decision although he will be allowed to represent the National team again only in last week of March next year.
His IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals has also made it clear that Smith will be in their plans for IPL 2019. That particular period will be crucial as the World Cup will be around the corner which will take place in England.
