Max Verstappen exposes reason for Bahrain Qualifying spin
Max Verstappen has had a frustrating start to his 2018 F1 season, and his troubles multiplied during Q2 in Bahrain when he spun off the circuit and hit the wall during his second high-speed lap even though his first lap was good enough to take him into Q3.
On Turn 2, Verstappen’s car spun across the track and he hit the barriers on the outside of the circuit.
According to Red Bull’s preliminary examination, an unexpected boost of power caused Verstappen to lose control.
Verstappen will now start in 15th place tomorrow and would be hoping to bring his ‘A overtaking game’ to the fore.
It was unfortunate,” said Verstappen
“I studied the data a bit and saw we had a 150hp increase, which is a bit odd.
“The corner isn’t flat out, but it was like an off and off switch. It spun up the rear tyres quite aggressively and then I spun.
“I didn’t anticipate it at all. With 150hp extra, suddenly it went and when you are already on the limit it is quite a lot.” he added.
Chris Horner spoke to the Sky sports journalists after the end of Qualifying, but denied the fact that maybe Max was pushing a little too hard.
“I think it is just racing,” Horner told Sky.
“That lap was never going to be a quicker lap, it was purely about giving the engine the opportunity to learn the optimum settings.
“It was a mistake but he will have the chance to bounce back from it.”
Can Verstappen bounce back from this ‘spin disaster’?
