Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff fear the Monaco GP

Mercedes seem to be in a good head space after the triumph at the Spanish GP. The win in Barcelona finally helped Mercedes stamp their authority on the ongoing season, something that they had struggled in the first few races.

However, Hamilton and Wolff aren’t letting the win get to their head and are already focussed and a little worried about the Monaco GP.

Hamilton had a pained outing in Monaco the last time round finishing 7th after having started the grand prix from P14.

Mercedes haven’t generally enjoyed the Monaco GP as it doesn’t suit the DNA of their car.

From what he saw in Barcelona, Hamilton believes that Red Bull would be the team to beat in Monte Carlo, as Ricciardo was quickest in the downforce-dependent final sector in Barcelona.

“Monaco is going be a serious challenge. The others are going to be hard to beat,” Hamilton said.

“Daniel Ricciardo was much quicker in the final sector.

“That is all downforce.

“They are going to be rapid in Monaco.” he added.

Ferrari too take to the Monaco track pretty well, as Vettel and Raikkonen finished first and second in Monte Carlo last year.

Toto Wolff too is ‘bloody worried’ about Monaco and how Mercedes would fare there.

“I’m bloody worried,” Wolff said.

“We have seen there are tracks which suit us well and some that we are not perfect at.

“For whatever reason it is very difficult to undo the DNA of our car, and Monaco, as well as Hungary and Singapore, are tracks where we have under-performed.

“As much as I am overwhelmed by the victory here, my mind is already on Monaco, and I remember it wasn’t a pleasant Sunday night last year.” he concluded.
