Reports: Virat Kohli could miss county stint and initial part of England Tour
Virat Kohli’s county plans could be hampered because of an injury he has been carrying for the last few weeks.
Kohli has been playing a lot of cricket in the last few months, and with the gruelling IPL just coming to an end, Kohli has been diagnosed with a slip-disc, one that could prevent him from playing for Surrey.
Kohli’s doctor, who is one of the leading orthopaedic surgeons in the country has warned Kohli of going through with his county stint as an aggravated slipped disc could result in Kohli having to pull out of the England series.
The reports in Mumbai Mirror suggest that Kohli had visited his doctor on Wednesday and has been advised rest.
Kohli might have to opt out of the initial part of the England tour if the injury worsens.
However, the doctors have confirmed that Kohli will not be needing surgery.
“Kohli was not to feature in the historic maiden Test match against Afghanistan next month, and now with this injury, his county stint will not take off either,” said a BCCI official.
Virat Kohli had specifically planned a county stint before the all important England tour, so as to acclimatise himself with the English conditions.
Kohli had a terrible England tour last time round, as he couldn’t cope with the swinging ball.
A stint with Surrey was going to help Kohli get used to the swinging ball and test his ‘changed English technique’ in match situations.
If Kohli indeed has to miss the England tour and his county stint, it will be a huge blow to his England plans and to India’s chances of winning a series in England.
