Why is Suryakumar Yadav not playing today's 1st ODI between Bangladesh and India in Mirpur?

During the first ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s stand-in skipper for the series Litton Das has won the Toss and opted to field first.

“We are going to bowl first. Looks like it could be sticky for the first ten overs, that’s why we are bowling first. Three seamers and two spinners for us. We want to follow the process and play good cricket,” remarked Das on the rationale behind the decision to field first.

Team India, on the other hand have welcomed back their all-format skipper Rohit Sharma in the mix, along with the two other experienced batters in Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who is likely to bat an no.5 in the batting order today for the first time in the format this year.

The management have decided to play as many as four allrounders today, which included the likes of the in-form Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur. Pacer Kuldeep Sen has been handed his maiden ODI cap.

Why is Suryakumar Yadav not playing today’s 1st ODI?

The no.1 ranked T20I batter at present, India’s Suryakumar Yadav is not playing the ongoing first ODI against Bangladesh, as he has not been selected in the 15-member team India squad for the tour.

The selectors have decided to hand some much needed rest/break to the 32-year-old, who has been a consistent part of the team at the top in White ball matches this year, including the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and the tour of New Zealand which followed soon after.

He, as well as left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh have been rested for the entire tour of Bangladesh.
