Arsenal have agreed terms with their second signing of the summer
Arsenal’s summer transfers could determine how the club would fare in the post Wenger era, a season which would determine the club’s ambitions and its ability to deal with a long serving manager leaving.
Unai Emery has been drafted in to lead this post Wenger era and with the World Cup looming large, his job, you would expect will be a little difficult.
But he has done some shrewd business up until now, getting Stephan Lichtsteiner to sign that Arsenal contract, getting a very experienced right back to the Arsenal ‘arsenal’.
And now he shifts his focus to the other positions that need reinforcements, with Sokratis Papastathopoulos having been identified as the next big target.
Reports in the Telegraph suggest that Arsenal have made their second signing of the summer and it is a £16m worth signature of Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund.
The deal is expected to be a 3 year one.
Sokratis is 29 and has been playing for Dortmund since 2013 after arriving from Werder Bremen.
He has also made 79 appearances for his national side Greece.
Sokratis’s addition will bolster that defence of Arsenal, who will be without experienced stalwarts like Mertesacker(released from the squad after retirement) and Koscielny(out for the start of the season due to injury).
The announcement though as Telegraph sources understand will not happen until next month, but a verbal contract has already been agreed upon by all parties.
Arsenal fans should be happy with this shrewd piece of business and would be hoping that Emery now turns his attention to the Arsenal’s midfield and forward line.
