“Michael Jordan Didn’t Beat the Greatest Team Ever Assembled!”: Draymond Green Justifies Picking LeBron James as GOAT Over $1.7 Billion Worth MJ
In every sport, a few players cross the threshold of being extraordinary and are considered the greatest ever to play that sport. The term that was anointed to describe those players is GOAT or Greatest of All Time. When it comes to basketball, a few players fit the bill. However, two lead the debates, Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Both MJ and Bron have achieved a lot in their illustrious careers. I can start listing their achievements, but at this point, everyone seems to already know about them. The main question that is a defining factor of the GOAT debate now is the basis on which we select our candidate.
Do we value sheer dominance more? Or do we look at continued excellence as the bigger factor? Well, for Draymond Green, it’s the latter.
Draymond Green picks LeBron James as GOAT over Michael Jordan
Over the course of his career, we’ve seen the entire Draymond Green arc. He went from hating LeBron James, to now becoming one of his biggest supporters. We all remember the altercation between Green and James during Game 4 of the 2016 Finals, which led to Dray’s suspension in Game 5. From that, to now being buddies, I figure Rich Paul might have a hand in that.
On the latest episode of Throwing Bones, Dray talked about his GOAT list.
“My top 5 is LJ 1, MJ 2, Kobe 3, Steph 4, Shaq 5. By 2005, LeBron was the best player in the NBA. In 2020, he was still the best player in the NBA. He was the best player in the NBA no matter what the game did. The game went from two slugs like slow big men to a stretch four big man, to like back to two big man to like no big man – and he’s been the best no matter what.”
He then tried to justify picking LeBron over MJ, and said,
“When you look at the teams that LeBron has carried to championships or carried to the Finals. MJ didn’t beat the greatest team ever assembled. Nor did he run up against the greatest team ever assembled every year.”
Well, that’s a bold pick by Dray.
NBA Twitter reacts to Draymond’s picks
NBA Twitter, as always, did not show any mercy to the Warriors star. They picked on his pick the only way they know: ruthlessly.
