“Is match mein maine 351 runs banaye”: Shubman Gill throwback video from U-16 days goes viral after maiden ODI double century
Indian batter Shubman Gill broke quite a few records in the 1st ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad. After his excellent knock, a video of Gill is getting viral on social media where he scored a brilliant triple century in a U-16 tournament in 2014.
Gill became just the 5th Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan to reach the milestone of scoring an ODI double-hundred. He also became the youngest player in history to score a double-hundred in ODIs. It is certain that he has sealed his place as an opener for the ICC World Cup later this year.
Gill plays domestic cricket for Punjab and has risen from the U-19 team to the Indian senior team now. Rohit missed a lot of ODIs last year, and this allowed Gill to be the regular opener of the side. Ishan Kishan scored a double-century in Bangladesh, but the team still stuck with Gill.
Shubman Gill throwback video from U-16 days goes viral
Shubman Gill was the captain of Mohali U-16 in the M L Markan Trophy in 2014. The Mohali U-16 were up against Amritsar U-16 at the MCM Ground in Mohali, where Gill and his opening partner, Nirmal Singh, made history. Gill won the toss and opted to bat first in the 3-day match.
Gill and Normal broke all sorts of records and added 587 runs for the first wicket in just 109.2 overs on the opening day of the match. Both of them absolutely smashed the bowlers of the Amritsar U-16 side. Gill scored 351 runs with the help of 49 boundaries and 2 sixes, whereas Nirmal scored 231 runs with the help of 32 boundaries.
“Mai 7 saal se cricket khel raha hu aur is match mai maine 351 runs maare. Pichle saal mai U-16 mai state ka highest run-scorer tha,” (I have been playing cricket for the last 7 years and was the highest U-16 run-scorer of the state last season) Shubman Gill said to the press after his knock.

Gill was just 15 years old when he played this knock, and he has certainly come a very long way. Lakhwinder Singh (Shubman Gill’s father) was a farmer, but he shifted to Mohali to give better cricketing facilities to his son, and Gill has proved that decision right as well.
