Ricciardo announces deadline on Formula 1 future decision
Daniel Ricciardo has been in the news for his potential move away from Red Bull ever since Red Bull announced that new deal with Honda.
With uncertainty surrounding how Red Bull will fare with the new Honda engine, Ricciardo might just want to jump ship so as to ensure that he can at least strive to get a world championship under his belt.
Ricciardo is towards the last phase of his career and will want a potential championship winning team around him and not one that isn’t certain about how its car would behave.
But if Red Bull are convinced that Honda will actually help them to world championship next season, they can offer Ricciardo a hefty contract and a ‘guarantee’ on how the car would fare for the next two seasons.
Ricciardo has admitted that Red Bull are in a hurry to lock him down as the engine deal has now been secured, but Ricciardo wants until before summer break to make a final call.
He has conceded that he wouldn’t let things go into the summer as he wants to have an enjoyable, stress free time.
“They [Red Bull] want to start to move soon,” Ricciardo said.
“I haven’t been pushed yet but there will be a bit of movement in the next week. Whether something gets put down on paper, discussions will start to ramp up the next seven days. Austria next week and then Silverstone which is two home GPs. We’ll see what happens.
“Now that the team has got the engine deal sorted, ideally for them they want something sooner rather than later. Probably in the next two weeks would be ideal for them.
“For me personally, it would be nice – even if it’s a while away – to go into the summer break knowing what I’m doing so I can enjoy the summer.
“If I’m on the phone for two weeks of the August break still trying to figure out my future, that won’t be that good. It could happen sooner.” he added.
Ricciardo would be using Hamilton multi million dollar deal as a leverage towards getting a hefty contract from Red Bull.
Else, he might just move to Ferrari or McLaren(as he has stated recently).
