Netherlands’ tour of South Africa 2023 is an extension of their South African tour 16 months ago. It is due to the same reason that this tour is starting with the second ODI and not the first.

Readers must note that Netherlands were slated to play a three-match ODI series for the first time in South Africa in November 2021. While a new and potentially dangerous COVID-19 variant had delayed the second and third ODIs at the time, the first ODI in Centurion was washed out after just a couple of overs were bowled in the second innings where the visitors were required to chase a 278-run target.

Rain, it seems, is in no mood to let South Africa-Netherlands ODI series be played without an interruption. With an eighth ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 spot up for grabs, South Africa are likely to miss out on direct qualification if they don’t win both these matches. Therefore, inclement weather conditions in Benoni could do more harm than just abandoning a match for the home team.

Scheduled to host an ODI after six and a half years, the city could start receiving rainfall anytime from now. Not the best of updates to head on the eve of an ODI, rain is predicted to pour down continuously over the Willowmoore Park for the next 24 hours or so.

If a reliable weather portal in AccuWeather is to be believed, a 02:00 PM (local time) start has substantial chances of getting postponed due to a 70% rain probability. Having said that, there are chances of a rain-curtailed contest as the rain probability is expected to be on the decrease towards the evening.

With most part of the second innings expected to be played under a 20% rain probability, fans could witness a live match but the same will only be possible after a stellar work done by the ground staff especially if it continues to rain till then.
