Samir Nasri handed 18 month ban for doping

The Former Arsenal and Man City star used drip treatment in Los Angeles.

Samir Nasri has been handed a 18-month ban from professional football on doping charges. The French midfielder is punished for using drip treatment in Los Angeles in 2016, which contravenes the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules.

At the time of his drip treatment, Nasri was playing for Sevilla on loan from Premier League club Manchester City.

WADA rules state that there is a 50 millilitre infusion limit per six-hour period for active athletes, but it was found out that Nasri received over 500 millilitre hydration in form of sterile water.

The ex-France national footballer was earlier given a six-month ban, but UEFA’S ethics and disciplinary inspector argued that the ban was insufficient. The European football’s governing body then extended the ban on the midfielder by twelve months.

Samir Nasri has played for Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League. He won two Premier League titles at the Manchester club, but his appearances were limited under Manuel Pellegrini. Nasri only played 8 matches in his last season at City, before he was loaned out to Sevilla.

After a largely unsuccessful spell at the Spanish club, the French footballer joined Turkish club Antalyaspor. He could only make eight appearances for the club.

Nasri joined Arsenal in 2008 and spent three seasons with the Gunners, where his impressive individual performances won him the French Player of the Year award in 2010. He made his move to Manchester City in 2011.

The Frenchman started his career at Ligue 1 Marseille.
