The summer of 2015 was a huge opportunity for Arsenal FC. Arsene Wenger had won two back to back FA Cups and had two more years to run on what should have been his last contract with Arsenal.

Mesut Ozil had finally become integral to the Arsenal side that had become stronger with the addition of Alexis Sanchez. There were positive talks about contract extensions for both Sanchez and Ozil as Arsenal fans all over the world knew that this was their moment to kick on.

Things started brilliantly as they snatched Petr Cech from Chelsea. Now they needed a CDM and a striker to compete for the league again. But somehow Arsene Wenger decided that his squad was good enough and did not sign any outfield player that summer.

It was a startling decision that eventually cost Arsenal the league. Yes, Leicester City’s Premier League triumph was one of the greatest underdog stories in sporting history. But make no mistake about it, Arsene Wenger had blown his big chance to win the league again.

People say that Ozil and Sanchez were left extremely disappointed by Wenger that year as they felt that his ego came in the way of what was a golden opportunity for the club.

Arsenal finished second that season, and had it been not for a baffling summer window they may have won the league.

Two years later, Sanchez has lost faith in Wenger’s project at Arsenal and clearly wants to leave as soon as possible. For all the nice things that he says about the club in public, Mesut Ozil is exactly the same as he is no closer to signing a contract extension.

Rumours have now surfaced that Ozil wants to leave Arsenal and move to Manchester United. Sources close to the club say that Ozil has even gone on to tell some of his team mates that he wants to go to Old Trafford.

Ozil’s close friend though has denied all those claims, as he feels that someone is playing a game with Mesut Ozil.

“Mesut is adamant he has never spoken to any player about going to Manchester United.”

“He has no idea if United want him but he wants to stay at Arsenal. Look, he just bought a new house in London. ”

“Mesut had been renting but he decided to buy a house because he both expects and wants to stay.”

“But he is angry that people are briefing against him and feels there seems to be some sort of campaign against him. His intention has always been to remain at Arsenal. ”

“Mesut, though, does feel he is being isolated and kept in the dark. He is worried that there is a game going on and he is left in the middle of it.”
